t Just Stand There...</h3> <p>The AIDS Committee of Western Newfoundland ACWN is hosting a 2011 AIDS Walk in in Corner Brook at the Majestic Square on Sunday, September 25.</p> <p>Registration will take place at 12 noon and the walk will begin at 1:00 p.m. There will be a silent auction, live entertainment and a free BBQ for supporters. This walk is part of the nation-wide Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life campaign.</p> <p>Approximately 65,000 Canadians are living with HIV/AIDS, and around 30% are unaware of their status. There is still no known cure or vaccine for HIV/ AIDS and social stigma along with inadequate education ensures that HIV continues to spread.</p> <p>The AIDS Walk is the ACWN main fundraiser and community members are encouraged to get involved by not only increasing awareness but raising funds.</p> <p>Getting involved is easy; to register and obtain pledge sheets contact Julia Young at 632-2836 or Kim Dawson at 637-5000 extension 5492. All funds raised stay in the province to help those affected. </p> <p>Registration can also be done online at www.aidswalkforlife.ca. Find a few friends and register as a team, or register as an individual. Online donations are welcome too, and with Artez involved, it s never been easier or more secure. The struggle for access to contraception was an important battle in Canadian history and it opened new freedoms for Canadians. Even today, 40 years later, the struggle continues as many Canadians still cannot access information and services because of real or imagined barriers.<br> <br> Youth, continue to face unplanned pregnancies or the risk of sexually transmitted infections because they are unable to access or negotiate the use of protection in their relationships<br> <br> People across the nation are encouraged to consider the importance of improving and maintaining their sexual and reproductive health and to talk about healthy decision making with the people they care about.
